Turkmenistan is advancing several large-scale energy and transport projects. TurkmenGas official Zerbay Bikjanov announced plans for a massive underground gas storage facility with an annual capacity of up to 5 billion cubic meters to manage seasonal demand and ensure grid stability. The energy strategy also includes building the ‘Shatlyk’ and ‘Karakum’ gas compression stations, modernizing purification systems, and upgrading pipeline reliability.

Regarding the TAPI gas pipeline, the Afghan Ministry of Mines and Petroleum reported that approximately 150 kilometers of the route are ready for pipe installation, supported by completed service roads and railway lines. While some officials anticipate completion of the Afghan sections in Herat by the end of 2026, TurkmenGas leadership suggested gas transmission through the Afghan section could begin as early as this year.

In the transport sector, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov authorized contracts for a 546-kilometer highway connecting Ashgabat and Dashoguz, which includes the construction of an 812-meter-long bridge.
