Typhoon Krovanh has caused significant weather disruptions across East Asia. In northern Taiwan, the storm’s outer circulation triggered heavy rainfall and flooding, particularly in Keelung, where water reached knee-deep levels in industrial and residential areas. The Central Weather Administration issued warnings for 19 counties and cities as rainfall accumulations reached 262.5 mm in Keelung’s Nuannuan district.

As the storm moved into the East China Sea, meteorologists identified an unusual trajectory. Due to being positioned in a “saddle zone” surrounded by high-pressure systems and a cold trough, experts warned the typhoon might perform a “360-degree rotation” in place.

By the morning of September 4, the center of Typhoon Krovanh was located in the East China Sea, approximately 365 km north of Naha in the Ryukyu Islands. The storm maintains maximum wind speeds of approximately 20 m/s with a minimum central pressure of 995 hPa. Experts from China Weather attribute the erratic movement to the storm being positioned in a “saddle zone,” facing high-pressure systems from the west, south, and east, while a cold trough sits to the north. This combination has created an uncertain steering flow that could cause the storm to move north, then south, and eventually loop around. Forecasts indicate the storm may begin shifting southward around September 5, though significant discrepancies remain between different meteorological models.
