The Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC) held a commemoration at its Tijuana campus to mark the 55th anniversary of the ‘UABC, Campestre o Nada’ student movement. 

Originating in 1971, the movement consisted of students from middle school, high school, and university levels who campaigned for the land required to establish a higher education site in the state. These efforts led to the allocation of 20 hectares in the Otay area, which serves as the current location of the Tijuana campus. Rector Luis Enrique Palafox Maestre honored the group for their community-driven vision, noting that their perseverance helped build the foundation for the public university system in Baja California.
