As the UEFA Nations League Group B1 campaign approaches, Switzerland and North Macedonia are prepared to face each other this Saturday at the Tose Proeski Arena in Skopje. Swiss coach Murat Yakin has signaled a shift in tactical philosophy, stating that the competition will no longer be treated as a series of “glorified friendly matches.” While Yakin previously used the tournament for experimentation, he now emphasizes its importance as a pathway to European Championship playoffs. The Swiss squad features milestone call-ups for Winsley Boteli and Johan Manzambi, as well as defender Adrian Bajrami. Bajrami, currently with Sporting Braga, is seeking to establish a permanent role within the national team following a brief appearance in October 2025. North Macedonia enters the opener seeking to end an eight-game winless streak and secure the first victory under manager Goce Sedloski. Following heavy 4-0 losses to Denmark and Turkey, the team looks to leverage its historically competitive home form to find offensive momentum. However, the hosts face personnel challenges, including the absence of Nikola Serafimov due to injury and Darko Churlinov due to administrative issues. Switzerland aims to build upon its recent success, including a World Cup quarter-final appearance and an unbeaten World Cup qualifying campaign, to secure promotion back to League A. However, manager Murat Yakin will be without key players Granit Xhaka and Breel Embolo, the latter of whom is serving a suspension. Johan Manzambi, who recently returned from injury, is expected to feature in the Swiss lineup. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-23: Switzerland national team shifts focus to Nations League Coach Murat Yakin declares the Nations League a priority for Switzerland as childhood friends Winsley Boteli and Johan Manzambi receive their first joint call-up to the national squad. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/switzerland-national-team-shifts-focus-to-nations-league ### 2026-09-16: Swiss national football team squad overhaul for Nations League Swiss coach Murat Yakin has named a 25-man squad for the Nations League, introducing new talents Winsley Boteli and Sascha Britschgi as the team seeks promotion to League A. 9 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/swiss-national-team-coach-names-nations-league-squad ### 2026-09-16: North Macedonia football coach announces Nations League squad North Macedonia coach Goce Sedloski has named a 28-player squad for the UEFA Nations League, featuring four debutants ahead of a dense four-match schedule starting September 26. 9 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/north-macedonia-football-coach-names-28-player-squad-for-nations-league --- Cite as: UEFA Nations League: North Macedonia and Switzerland prepare.
