At UFC Vegas 121, Luis Hernandez stepped in on two days’ notice to replace Mickey Gall in a light heavyweight bout against Sedriques Dumas. During weigh-ins, Hernandez recorded a weight of 204 pounds against Dumas’ 197 pounds.

In the fight, Hernandez secured a victory in his UFC debut, defeating Dumas via a standing guillotine choke at the 0:57 mark of the first round. Hernandez, an active Miami-Dade police officer, improved his professional record to 9-0, with all nine victories coming by way of finish. Following the match, Hernandez received a $100,000 Performance of the Night bonus.

The matchup drew attention due to the contrasting backgrounds of the fighters, noting Hernandez’s role in law enforcement versus Dumas’ history of multiple arrests. Following the win, which follows his recent contract acquisition via Dana White’s Contender Series, Hernandez expressed that he has “much more to show the world” and noted his interest in competing at a lower weight class and a quick return to the octagon.

Sedriques Dumas fell to a 10-6 professional record. The defeat marks his fourth consecutive loss and extends a winless streak of over two years.
