A report from the Royal College of Music indicates that UK business leaders highly value music education for developing essential workplace competencies. In a survey involving 302 business leaders and 2,000 adults, music was identified as a top subject for fostering skills such as creativity, innovation, teamwork, adaptability, communication, and time management.

While 90% of leaders reported that music aids concentration, the research highlights a decline in music education opportunities for children in the UK, noting that participation in music GCSE and A-Level studies has fallen.

The report also emphasizes the sector’s economic significance, with 49% of British adults identifying music as the UK’s greatest export, surpassing fields such as scientific research, technology innovation, and manufacturing.
