At the Conservative Party annual conference in Birmingham, leader Kemi Badenoch has focused on projecting unity and presenting a new political vision to differentiate the party from the Labour government.

Initially, Badenoch emphasized the need for strong economic foundations and increased defense spending. The conference was marked by internal tensions regarding Reform UK defectors, whom some attendees referred to as “turncoats,” and speculation regarding further potential defections.

As the conference progressed, Badenoch framed the upcoming election as a “battle for the soul of the nation.” Her economic platform included proposals to slash inheritance tax, halve employer national insurance for workers aged 21 to 24, and reduce student loan interest. Additionally, she addressed party identity by vowing to adhere to core stances such as leaving the ECHR and scrapping net zero targets. Despite polling placing the party in third place, Badenoch’s personal approval ratings have reportedly increased.
