In late September, National Grid Electricity Distribution announced £500,000 in funding through its Community Matters Fund. These grants, available to registered charities and non-profit organisations, are intended to support warm hubs, village halls, and community outreach efforts such as visiting isolated households or distributing energy-saving items like blankets and draught excluders. By mid-October, additional support measures were highlighted, including the British Gas Energy Trust offering Energy Support Grants of up to £1,700 to help eligible customers clear energy debt. Furthermore, in Scotland, approximately 345,000 households are expected to receive a £150 discount through the UK Government’s Warm Home Discount scheme. Under updated rules, many Scottish recipients will receive this rebate automatically, a process intended to align with the systems used in England and Wales. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-16: UK energy assistance: Grants and Warm Home Discounts available UK households are receiving energy cost relief through the British Gas Energy Trust's grants and the expanded Warm Home Discount scheme, which provides a £150 rebate to hundreds of thousands in Scotland. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/uk-energy-assistance-grants-and-warm-home-discounts-available ### 2026-09-25: National Grid offers £500,000 in winter community grants National Grid Electricity Distribution is offering £500,000 in grants to UK community groups to support warm hubs and energy efficiency initiatives this winter. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/national-grid-offers-500000-in-winter-community-grants --- Cite as: UK household energy assistance programs.
