Major fires in the United Kingdom have caused significant railway disruptions and infrastructure damage. In the West Midlands, a large fire near the railway between Stourbridge Junction and Hagley impacted signaling, telecommunications, and fencing, leading to the closure of parts of the Snow Hill Lines and the implementation of rail replacement bus services.

In London, a separate blaze at a waste facility in Deptford involving roughly 50 tonnes of household waste blocked lines between London Bridge and New Cross due to unsafe smoke levels.

Following the wildfires in the Stourbridge area, which destroyed 19 properties and damaged 18 homes, Network Rail launched a major repair operation. Passenger train services between Stourbridge and Kidderminster resumed on August 22 following an extensive recovery operation. 

More than 200 workers, including engineers, arborists, and technical specialists, worked round-the-clock to replace over 3,000 metres of signaling power and data cables, repair drainage systems, install 1,500 metres of new fencing, and replace damaged telecommunications systems. Richard Parker, the Mayor of the West Midlands, described the devastation as ‘unprecedented’ and praised the ‘monumental effort’ by Network Rail teams. Denise Wetton, integrated managing director for GBR West Midlands, noted that the reopening marks an important milestone for the local community.
