UMBAL St. George hospital in Plovdiv is undergoing a significant expansion and modernization of its medical facilities. The hospital is finalizing a major investment program, which includes the development of a new 18,000 square meter building for pediatric and oncology services, expected to be operational by the end of 2026.

Other strategic infrastructure projects include the creation of a high-tech nuclear medicine base, an expanded radiotherapy center, an updated surgical wing, and improved emergency air transport capabilities via a second certified helipad.

The hospital’s Dialysis Treatment Department has successfully relocated from Vasil Aprilov Blvd to a new site at the corner of Peshpersko Shose Blvd and Tsarevets St. This facility is three times larger than its predecessor and features 30 modern dialysis stations, including 24 for regular chronic dialysis, two for emergency cases, and two VIP stations. The center utilizes next-generation machines capable of both hemodialysis and high-purity hemodiafiltration, supported by new water softening and reverse osmosis systems. To assist patients, free transportation has been provided for regular visits.

Additionally, Health Minister Katya Ivkova officially opened a newly renovated emergency department. The project involved the reconstruction of approximately 872 square meters, with works valued at 750,359.80 euros. Funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the new department includes a medical triage zone, consultation and treatment rooms, a shock room, and isolation areas. To ensure a smooth transition, the hospital director, Yovko Chervenkov, stated that the old and new emergency departments will operate in parallel during the initial phase.
