Following a period of strained relations and the expulsion of previous coordinators, the United Nations appointed Cameroonian diplomat Njoya Tikum as the new Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for Burkina Faso in July 2026. Tikum formally assumed the role after presenting his credentials to Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré.
