Health authorities in Tarapacá, Chile, closed an unauthorized sea urchin processing plant in the Seremeño sector following a multidisciplinary inspection. The facility was found to be operating without sanitary permits and lacked necessary water and sewage systems. 

During the operation, officials seized 1,000 live sea urchins and 764 kilograms of sea urchin tongues. Although authorities ordered the destruction of the seafood to mitigate public health risks, the responsible parties removed the 764 kilograms of product from the site without authorization. While the company claimed to have destroyed the items themselves, they provided no evidence and failed to follow legal destruction protocols.
