# UNCF leadership transition

Michael L. Lomax, the longtime president and CEO of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), has announced his intention to step down in June 2027. 

During his leadership, which spanned over two decades, Lomax is credited with raising more than $4 billion to support historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). His tenure saw the UNCF endowment grow from $60 million to over $500 million, with a target of $600 million. Lomax also oversaw the expansion of scholarship programs to more than 600 colleges and the creation of a pooled endowment for HBCUs. 

As the organization prepares for this transition, the UNCF has begun the search for a successor to maintain the momentum of what Lomax described as a period of “renaissance and renewed energy” for HBCUs.
