An unidentified drone carrying a significant amount of explosives entered Bulgarian airspace from Romania at approximately 8:10 a.m. on Saturday. The device exploded in a sunflower field roughly 100 meters inside the Bulgarian border near the Kardam border crossing.

The blast occurred in close proximity to critical energy infrastructure, located approximately 1,000 meters from a Bulgarian compressor station on the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline and 200 meters from a Romanian compressor station. While the explosion produced a large plume of black smoke, no injuries, fatalities, or damage to buildings or infrastructure were reported.

Monitoring systems from Bulgaria, Romania, and the NATO Combined Air Operations Centre in Torrejón failed to detect the drone during its flight, a failure attributed to the aircraft's small size and low altitude. Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev has since convened an extraordinary Security Council meeting to address the breach.

Bulgarian security forces—including the Border Police, National Police, and Ministry of Defence units—have cordoned off the area to investigate.
