The Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (UNIPVC) has achieved significant milestones regarding sustainability and digital integration.

In September 2026, the institution was ranked third in Portugal in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026, scoring 7,912.5 points. This ranking placed the university 260th globally among 2,016 institutions, with particularly high performance noted in energy, climate change, governance, and digitalization.

By October 2026, UNIPVC expanded its institutional focus to digital transformation by joining the DEFIA Portugal Network. This national initiative, coordinated by the University of Coimbra, promotes the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence in higher education. UNIPVC has already begun implementing specific guides for faculty and students to manage generative AI tools while maintaining transparency and critical thinking.
