In late September, the university organized a series of free scientific activities at Plaza Sendera to observe the International Day of Scientific Culture. The event featured workshops, lectures, and demonstrations on topics including artificial intelligence, health, and the environment, aiming to help the public distinguish reliable information from false content. Following this, the university launched the ‘Vocaciones Primarias’ program, which provides STEM workshops specifically for children in rural communities. Coordinated by researchers from the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the initiative uses volunteer students and faculty to conduct weekly practical sessions designed to spark scientific curiosity and encourage future careers in technology and science. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-05: University of Colima brings STEM workshops to rural students The University of Colima is conducting STEM workshops for 55 rural primary school students in La Nogalera through its “Vocaciones Primarias” program to encourage interest in science and technology. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/university-of-colima-brings-stem-workshops-to-rural-students ### 2026-09-21: Universidad de Colima to host free science event at Plaza Sendera The University of Colima will host free science exhibitions, workshops, and lectures at Plaza Sendera from September 26-28 to celebrate the International Day of Scientific Culture. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/universidad-de-colima-to-host-free-science-event-at-plaza-sendera --- Cite as: University of Colima science outreach initiatives.
