Researchers at the University of Granada have conducted clinical studies focused on obesity management and cardiovascular health markers. Through the TEMPUS project, a 12-week clinical trial involving 187 adults investigated the efficacy of combining intermittent fasting with supervised strength and high-intensity aerobic exercise.

Results published in Nature Communications indicated that participants utilizing intermittent fasting lost an average of 2.2 kilograms more than the standard care group. The combination of fasting and exercise also showed significant improvements in liver health, with 28.6% of participants in that group achieving normal liver fat levels compared to 6.5% in standard care. However, researchers noted that these benefits tended to diminish once the specific regimens were discontinued.

In related research, scientists identified molecular signatures in the blood associated with cardiorespiratory fitness. This work aims to identify blood-based biomarkers that could serve as indicators of longevity and reduced disease risk, potentially replacing the need for maximum effort stress tests in clinical settings.
