# University of Montenegro rector election reform initiative

Academic staff at the University of Montenegro have submitted an initiative to the Parliament of Montenegro to reform the university rector election process. A group of 70 professors and staff members is requesting an amendment to the Law on Higher Education to allow for direct elections by the academic community. 

Currently, the rector is selected by the Senate and the Governing Board. The signatories argue that moving to a direct election model would increase democracy, transparency, and institutional legitimacy, aligning the university with the values of the European Higher Education Area and the Bologna Process.
