Undergraduate students at the University of Southern California are participating in intensive summer research programs across various scientific disciplines. 

In the Viterbi School of Engineering, research involves developing miniature sensors to detect biological chemical messengers for the early identification of neurodegenerative diseases and traumatic brain injuries. Other student research has focused on microbiome studies. Ishwar K. Puri, the university’s senior vice president of research and innovation, stated that these opportunities allow students to transition from classroom learning to active discovery.
