The University of Udine implemented the ‘Scuola della montagna–Dolomiti friulane’ project in Barcis to support the socio-economic vitality of the Friulian Dolomites. The initiative focused on strengthening human capital in high-altitude regions to combat challenges such as depopulation and aging populations.

During the program, specialized training was provided to participants on topics including the application of small and big data to mountain tourism, agriculture, forestry, energy, and artificial intelligence. One specific course focused on using territorial data to improve decision-making processes for local tourism and stimulating youth entrepreneurship.

Over its three-year duration starting in 2024, the project hosted 12 residential courses, attracting 223 participants from more than 450 applications. The program involved nearly 200 experts and 58 local entities, successfully connecting the university with mountain communities.
