The University of Urbino Carlo Bo has concluded its leadership transition following a runoff election between Giovanni Boccia Artieri and Marco Rocchi. In the initial round, Boccia Artieri received 34% of the votes, Rocchi 32%, and Berta Martini 28%. Martini, the only female candidate, was eliminated from the race.

The first round highlighted divergent voting patterns: Boccia Artieri secured a majority among faculty members, while Rocchi earned significant support from technical and administrative staff. Student voters exhibited caution, with a majority of eligible students casting blank ballots.

In the runoff election held on October 5 and 6, Marco Rocchi was elected Rector, securing 59.57% of the weighted votes against Boccia Artieri’s 34.93%. The election maintained a high turnout of 91.61%, with 732 of 799 eligible voters participating.

Rocchi, a Professor of Medical Statistics and biostatistician, will begin his term on November 1, 2026, serving through 2032. His stated objectives include increasing student influence in university bodies, creating new social spaces, and strengthening institutional ties with the Marche Region to secure funding. He also intends to address university finances, personnel expenses, and hiring plans.
