A ranking of Polish cities by green space coverage identifies Zielona Góra as the leader, with green areas comprising approximately 55% of its territory. Other cities with significant green cover include Katowice and Bydgoszcz, while cities like Rzeszów and Kraków show much lower percentages.

Following these findings, Polish municipalities are actively implementing urban greenery projects through public tenders. In Katowice, the Municipal Greenery Department has launched tenders for seven locations selected by residents via the Green Budget. These projects, totaling 146,000 PLN, involve adding plants, shrubs, and ornamental grasses to streets such as Kilińskiego, Sikorskiego, and Chorzowska to improve aesthetics and manage rainwater runoff. In the Śródmieście and Ligota districts, works are scheduled to begin in late August or early September 2026. This includes removing paving stones on Barbara Flieger and Braci Wolnych streets, and de-paving 50 square meters around an oak tree in Ligota to improve its vitality.

In Poznań, Poznańskie Inwestycje Miejskie has received two bids for the construction of a Green City Square in the Rataje district. The 6,000 square meter project, which includes walking paths and recreational architecture, has an allocated budget of 4,150,000 PLN, with the lowest bid at approximately 3,910,312 PLN.

Regional efforts to combat urban heat islands continue in Silesia. In Ruda Śląska, authorities plan to transform Jan Paweł II Square by replacing over 1,300 square meters of concrete with lawns and flower beds, reversing a 2010 renovation. This project is supported by 5.5 million PLN from the European Funds for Silesia 2021-2027 program.
