In Merano, a pigeon was recovered after being wounded by a pellet shot. The bird was transported to the Bolzano Avifauna Recovery Center (CRAB), where veterinarians removed a metal pellet from its shoulder. 

This event follows other recent incidents involving urban wildlife in the region, including a pigeon with a fractured wing in May 2025 and a wood pigeon in February 2026. The injured bird is undergoing antibiotic and anti-inflammatory therapy under observation with the intention of being released back into the wild. The Forestry Corps has been notified.
