Donald Trump has advocated for the expansion of capital punishment to target specific categories of violent crime. During a rally in Alabama, he proposed using the death penalty for large-scale drug traffickers, human traffickers, and those who murder police officers.

Following these proposals, the President directed the Justice Department to pursue the death penalty for individuals convicted of murdering both police officers and firefighters in the line of duty. Instructing Attorney General Todd Blanche to seek capital punishment whenever federal law permits, Trump stated these measures are intended to serve as a deterrent against attacks on first responders.
