Public health officials in several U.S. coastal regions have issued warnings due to elevated bacteria levels in ocean waters. 

In early September, Florida and California reported bacteria concentrations exceeding safety standards. In Miami-Dade, Florida, officials advised against water activities at Crandon Park North due to high enterococci levels, which may stem from stormwater runoff, septic leaks, or wildlife. Simultaneously, Los Angeles County issued warnings for ten locations, including Santa Monica Pier and areas in Redondo and Hermosa Beach.

By a few days later, the scope of advisories expanded to include Oregon. The Oregon Health Authority issued an advisory for Siletz Bay in Lincoln County, warning of risks such as skin rashes and respiratory infections. In California, Los Angeles County maintained warnings for nine coastal locations, including Santa Monica, Torrance, and San Pedro beaches, while noting that some previous advisories for Paradise Cove and Catalina Island had been lifted.
