Law enforcement and safety agencies across several US states have launched initiatives to combat impaired driving during the Halloween season.

In New York, Oswego County joined a statewide high-visibility engagement campaign coordinated by STOP-DWI. Officials emphasized the importance of sober transportation plans and urged drivers to remain alert for pedestrians and trick-or-treaters. 

Broadening the scope, North Carolina and New York have intensified patrols and sobriety checkpoints. North Carolina’s Governor’s Highway Safety Program initiated the ‘Booze It & Lose It’ campaign, covering all 100 counties to target drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In New York, a campaign funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee includes extra DWI patrols, following a previous year where the state issued over 44,000 citations during the Halloween period.
