Senior members of the Trump administration held unannounced, multi-hour meetings at Camp David to discuss strategic options regarding the conflict with Iran and the Houthi insurgency in Yemen. Participants in these high-level discussions included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Joint Chiefs Chairman General Dan Caine. While reports indicate that “decisions were made, or at least in-depth discussions took place” regarding the Middle East crisis, no typical large-scale military movements preceding a major operation have been observed. President Trump has indicated that a decision regarding Iran is imminent, suggesting the situation could be resolved in “the easy way or the hard way.” In response to rising tensions, the Pentagon is expected to deploy the USS Theodore Roosevelt and approximately 10,000 personnel to the region. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has asserted that only diplomatic negotiations can provide a resolution, warning of a forceful response to any new US military actions. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-05: US national security advisors hold secret meeting on Iran and Yemen President Trump’s top national security advisors met secretly at Camp David to discuss future actions regarding Iran and the conflict in Yemen. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/us-national-security-advisors-hold-secret-meeting-on-iran-and-yemen ### 2026-10-03: Trump administration officials hold secret Camp David meeting on Iran and Yemen Trump administration officials held a secret meeting at Camp David to discuss military options regarding Iran and Yemen, as the President signals a looming decision on potential operations. 42 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/us-officials-hold-secret-camp-david-meeting-on-iran-and-yemen --- Cite as: US-Iran and Yemen strategic planning.
