U.S. News & World Report released its 2027 Best Colleges rankings, which introduced significant changes to its methodology. A primary update involved replacing the graduate indebtedness indicator with a new metric that compares graduate earnings within specific fields of study four years after graduation.

The rankings highlighted various regional institutions. In Virginia, Regent University maintained its status as a Best National University and Top Private College for the eighth year, while Shenandoah University saw a 27-spot rise in national university rankings. In Georgia, Emory University led state rankings, and Spelman College was named the top-ranked Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in the nation.
