The U.S. Navy and Boeing Co have conducted successful developmental testing of the Harpoon Coastal Defense System (HCDS) at the Point Mugu Sea Range in California. The tests, which involved striking a target vessel at sea, validated the system’s capability to engage maritime threats in littoral waters using RGM-84L-4 Block II missiles.

This testing is part of a multi-billion dollar procurement program to bolster Taiwan’s maritime defenses. The deal includes 100 launchers, 400 missiles, and various radar and command-and-control vehicles. Pentagon officials have indicated that Taiwan holds “top priority worldwide” for the delivery of these systems. While full delivery is expected by the end of 2028, several components have already arrived in Taiwan, where the Navy’s Littoral Combat Command is performing equipment acceptance and simulated strike training.
