The United States has implemented a “third-country” deportation program, sending migrants to nations that are neither their country of citizenship nor their habitual residence. The Central African Republic is one of at least 12 African nations that have signed agreements to accept these deportees.

In late August 2026, Daniela Fuentes, a Cuban transgender woman, was deported to Bangui. She reported having no ties or legal protections in the country and stated she must now hide her identity to avoid attention.

By late October 2026, three Nicaraguan citizens were also deported to Bangui, bringing the total number of Nicaraguans expelled to the nation to six within a two-month period. These individuals alleged they were misled about their destination and subjected to physical coercion, including being beaten and held in handcuffs for over 24 hours. The deportees arrived without travel documents and remain under strict surveillance in a local shelter.
