As the November 3, 2026, midterm elections approach, several states are managing various registration and mail-in ballot procedures. In Maryland, the deadline for online or mail-in registration is October 13, though same-day registration is available at early voting centers or polling places with proof of residence. North Carolina also offers same-day registration through its early voting period ending October 31.

In Louisiana, the online registration deadline is October 13 for residents with a valid state driver’s license or Special ID card. In-person and mail-in registration deadlines passed on October 5. Secretary of State Nancy Landry has promoted the official Louisiana Voter Portal and the GeauxVote app for checking registration status and locating polling stations.

In Oregon, officials have advised voters to mail ballots by October 27 or use drop boxes to avoid potential postal delays in rural areas. Clackamas County has launched a ballot tracking service for the 324,000 ballots being mailed. In Pennsylvania, the deadline to request mail-in ballots is October 27.

Recent developments indicate the elections will determine the composition of the House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate. The Republican administration currently holds a narrow lead in the House with 220 seats to the Democrats' 215. Redistricting has significantly impacted the landscape, with boundaries modified in one-third of electoral districts. Republicans have redrawn boundaries in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas, while Democrats have implemented measures in California and Salt Lake City, Utah. Additionally, polling shows a decline in popularity for Trump-supported candidates among Latino voters in Texas.
