Nidio Encarnación, executive director of the Technical Executing Unit for Agroforestry Development Projects (UTEPDA), has conducted supervisory visits to oversee agroforestry and reforestation initiatives in several Dominican Republic provinces, including Bahoruco, Independencia, and Barahona.

In the Sierra de Neiba region, efforts focus on watershed recovery, natural resource protection, and supporting agroforestry producers. These activities include the rehabilitation of roads to facilitate regional commerce and the delivery of property titles to beneficiaries to provide legal security. 

In Barahona, the UTEPDA is supporting coffee and avocado producers by providing agricultural inputs and heavy machinery. In Villa Jaragua, the institution is coordinating with local government to strengthen the impact of regional projects through the rehabilitation of inter-parcel roads to assist in the transport of harvests.

Recent expansions in the southern region include reforestation efforts within the Yaque del Sur river basins. Along the Palomino route, the organization has planted 7,000 trees to protect water sources and restore forest areas, consisting of 5,000 native pines, 1,000 white cedars, and 1,000 cabirma santas. Following progress reviews in the Sierra de Bahoruco, UTEPDA has planned future efforts for the Pedernales region, focusing on further agroforestry development and inter-parcel road rehabilitation.
