Sources: 11. Developments: 2. Residents of Villa Mella in Santo Domingo Norte continue to face significant disruptions to essential utility services. Initial reports highlighted prolonged electricity outages lasting more than seven hours daily, causing economic losses due to food spoilage and potential appliance damage. Following these power issues, residents in sectors such as Barrio Nuevo, El Edén, Gisel, and Villa Nueva reported a month-long shortage of potable water, which was previously attributed to damaged pumping equipment. This water scarcity is now being linked to an intensifying national crisis driven by the El Niño phenomenon. The National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI) reports that national reservoir levels have reached 59.20%, or approximately 1,195.14 million cubic meters, prompting authorities to manage these structures with caution due to a rainfall deficit. In Villa Mella, the lack of potable water persists, forcing families to continue purchasing expensive water from tanker trucks. In response, the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewerage (INAPA) is seeking alternatives and urging citizens to use water rationally to mitigate the effects of the drought. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-13: Dominican Republic faces water scarcity and real estate growth The Dominican Republic faces growing water scarcity due to El Niño, affecting Villa Mella residents, while the Punta Cana region sees continued real estate expansion through new projects. 9 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/villa-mella-residents-face-month-long-potable-water-shortage ### 2026-09-28: Villa Mella residents report prolonged power outages Residents of Villa Mella in Santo Domingo Norte report daily power outages exceeding seven hours, causing economic losses and disrupting local businesses and families. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/villa-mella-residents-report-prolonged-power-outages --- Cite as: Utility service disruptions in Villa Mella.
