Political tensions in Uttar Pradesh have intensified involving Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav and various political rivals.

Initial friction arose after Akash Anand of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) referred to Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi as ‘uncle’ to mock older leadership. Yadav responded by shifting the focus toward legislative issues such as education, examination integrity, and the Ram Mandir, accusing the government of avoiding meaningful debate.

Conflict escalated further following remarks by Yadav regarding Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) leader Jayant Chaudhary, in which Yadav claimed to have turned a ‘chavanni’ (a small coin) into a rupee. This prompted backlash from RLD's Dilnawaz Khan, who accused the SP of treating minorities as a vote bank, and BSP chief Mayawati. Mayawati condemned the comments as “indecent and shameful,” demanding an apology to the RLD, the Jat community, and the family of Chaudhary Charan Singh.

In response to the backlash, Yadav defended his party, asserting that the SP never breaks alliances, and redirected criticism toward the BJP government regarding inflation and poverty. However, RLD leaders and UP Minister O. P. Rajbhar continued to criticize Yadav, suggesting his remarks were politically unbalanced and insulted the Jat community that historically supported his father, Mulayam Singh Yadav. Mayawati further accused the SP of being an unreliable ally, citing the 1995 Lucknow State Guest House incident.
