On July 19, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) conducted a large-scale, island-wide enforcement operation on Vancouver Island. Working alongside the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and other agencies, federal fishery officers established checkpoints stretching from Port Hardy to Victoria.

The operation involved the inspection of approximately 200 personal vehicles, 18 commercial transport vehicles, and 85 vessels. Authorities issued over 90 violation tickets, primarily concerning the illegal processing of fish and the possession of undersized Chinook salmon. DFO field supervisor Shaun Tadei characterized the coordinated effort as “a success,” noting it was the first time such simultaneous roadside inspections had been performed across the island.
