The Court of Justice of the Federal District and Territories (TJDFT) upheld the conviction of a driver involved in a fatal accident in Varjão that killed 16-year-old Ashley Nicoly dos Santos Lopes in April 2025. 

Judges unanimously rejected a defense appeal that sought to blame the victim's speed for the collision. The court determined the accident was unavoidable due to the driver traveling against the flow of traffic while under the influence of alcohol. A breathalyzer test showed 1.24 mg of alcohol per liter of alveolar air. The driver received a sentence of five years of imprisonment in a semi-open regime and a two-year suspension of their driver's license.
