On September 9, multiple vehicle arsons occurred in the Sofia neighborhoods of Lagera and Hipodruma. Approximately 11 vehicles were initially reported as affected, with witnesses in Lagera describing intense flames and explosions. 

By September 13, the investigation revealed that the attacks were part of an extortion plot targeting insurance companies. Prosecutors stated the perpetrators intended to demand 500,000 euros in cryptocurrency, threatening to burn more vehicles every 10 days if demands were not met. 

Authorities reported that a total of 13 cars were partially or fully destroyed. A suspect was detained after being found with canisters of flammable liquid, which he reportedly obtained from the actual perpetrators. The Sofia City Court has ordered the suspect to be held in detention under guard.
