The Veneto Regional Council has approved legislation to recognize and support family caregivers, integrating them into the regional social and healthcare service networks. The law acknowledges the social and economic value of individuals providing unpaid care to relatives with disabilities, chronic illnesses, or non-self-sufficiency.

Regional President Alberto Stefani noted that the measure affects more than 260,000 residents. Provisions within the law include training, psychological support, relief measures, and the use of telemedicine. Specific protections are also directed toward caregivers under the age of 24, through educational credits and work-study balance tools, as well as those over 65.

While the law passed with support from both the majority and the opposition, some opposition members have advocated for more robust economic and social security protections to address the risks of caregivers sacrificing their health or employment.
