The Venezuelan Ministry of University Education has initiated several measures to reform the higher education system and adjust financial support for academic personnel and students. Initially, the ministry began reviewing and updating payroll data across various institutions, including the Universidad Central de Venezuela and Universidad de Carabobo, to facilitate salary adjustments for professors. This process is part of a broader effort to modernize the higher education system through a proposed new University Law aimed at strengthening institutional functions and improving social welfare. Following these administrative updates, the ministry announced a significant increase in scholarship amounts for public university students and teaching assistants. Effective November, student scholarships will rise to $40, while teaching assistants will receive a $60 stipend. These funds are to be distributed via the Patria system based on a criteria-based allocation involving socioeconomic status, academic excellence, and merit in sports or culture. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-11: Venezuela Ministry increases university scholarship amounts Venezuela's Ministry of University Education is increasing public university scholarships to $40 for students and $60 for teaching assistants, effective November. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/venezuela-ministry-increases-university-scholarship-amounts ### 2026-09-25: Venezuela Ministry of University Education reviews payrolls for professor salary adjustments Venezuela's Ministry of University Education is reviewing and updating payrolls at several major universities to facilitate salary adjustments and ensure accurate compensation for professors. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/venezuela-ministry-of-university-education-reviews-payrolls-for-professor-salary-adjustments --- Cite as: Venezuela university education reforms and funding.
