The Veolia Towers Hamburg began their Basketball Bundesliga season with mixed results. In their season opener, the team suffered a 96:72 defeat against Telekom Baskets Bonn, where Bonn established an early lead and maintained dominance through the third quarter.

In their subsequent home game at the Inselpark Arena, Hamburg secured their first victory of the season with a 94:90 overtime win against Niners Chemnitz. The match was notably interrupted by a 13-minute delay after 2,000 confetti cannons, distributed by a sponsor, covered the court and required cleaning with brooms and leaf blowers.

Despite trailing by eight points in the final quarter, Hamburg rallied behind Noah Thomasson, who forced overtime with a three-pointer. In the extra period, Kenneth Ogbe and David Muenkat helped seal the win, providing a turnaround for the team following their difficult start.
