# Via Dutra highway infrastructure expansion

The concessionaire RioSP has announced scheduled rock blasting and temporary road closures on the southbound lane of the Via Dutra highway in the Serra das Araras region. These operations, occurring at km 224.500 toward São Paulo, are part of a R$ 1.5 billion infrastructure project to implement new uphill and downhill lanes between Piraí and Paracambi.

Started in April 2024, the expansion project includes eight kilometers of new lanes in each direction, 24 viaducts, three pedestrian walkways, and two escape ramps. The initiative aims to increase traffic capacity and improve safety by doubling the maximum speed limit from 40 km/h to 80 km/h, with completion expected by 2027.
