The labor dispute at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) has escalated following overwhelming union votes for industrial action. The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) reported that 95.39% of its members voted in favor of striking, while 97.86% supported action short of a strike.

Coordinated industrial action with the Prospect Union is scheduled for 4 and 5 September at the V&A Storehouse, V&A East, and Young V&A sites. Additionally, starting 4 September, PCS members will engage in work-to-rule actions across all V&A sites, which includes refusing overtime and informal tasks.

Union demands have expanded to include Real Living Wage accreditation, improved pay for Band 6 staff and above, and 1.5x pay for Bank Holiday work. Workers cited the high cost of living in London, noting that salaries for roles such as conservators and floor assistants fall significantly below the Minimum Income Standard.

Health and safety concerns remain central to the dispute. Following a record-breaking heatwave, workers at the V&A East Storehouse reported limited access to drinking water and restroom breaks. Unions continue to demand a heatwave policy to close public spaces when temperatures reach 30 °C and improved water access for staff. While the museum maintains that negotiations have been conducted in good faith and has updated its paid break policy, unions continue to criticize leadership for a perceived lack of engagement.
