# Vietnam academic and medical credential fraud investigation

Authorities in Vietnam have dismantled criminal networks involved in the production and sale of fraudulent academic and medical credentials.

In early October, a joint operation by the Hanoi Police and the Department of Cybersecurity and High-Tech Crime Prevention uncovered a ring operating out of the Ton That Tung Medical and Pharmaceutical Intermediate School. This group was involved in illegal enrollment, training, and examination processes to issue unauthorized intermediate degrees and short-term medical certificates to thousands of students. Seven suspects were arrested during the operation.

Later in the month, Hanoi police dismantled a separate, large-scale nationwide network that had been operating since early 2024. This group utilized social media and advertising websites to sell approximately 1,500 counterfeit diplomas and certificates. The investigation led to the prosecution of 10 individuals, including two university lecturers, Đỗ Hạnh Dung and Trần Thị Thoa, who allegedly collaborated with the ring. 

Led by Hoàng Văn Đạt and Trần Anh Hào, the network used specialized machinery and counterfeit seals obtained from various schools and notary offices. Raids in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Lang Son, and Quang Ninh resulted in the seizure of hundreds of counterfeit seals, blank templates, and printing equipment. The group reportedly earned nearly 3 billion VND in illicit profits.
