In late August 2026, rice and paddy prices in Vietnam experienced slight decreases. This decline occurred amid slow trading activity across several provinces in the Mekong Delta.

In An Giang, fresh paddy prices for varieties such as OM 5451, OM 34, and OM 18 dropped by 100 VND/kg. Raw rice intended for export, including IR 504 and CL 555, also saw decreases of 50 VND/kg, while other export varieties like OM 18 and Dai Thom 8 remained relatively stable or experienced minor fluctuations.

In the retail market, specialty rice such as Nang Nhen reached 28,000 VND/kg, while common white rice remained around 16,000 VND/kg. Conversely, rice bran prices saw an uptick, increasing by 100 VND/kg to a range of 7,550–7,650 VND/kg.

Broader export trends show shifting market dynamics. Between the start of 2026 and August 15, Vietnam exported approximately 5.7 million tons of rice, earning $2.73 billion. Although overall volume and turnover have declined compared to 2025, demand from China surged, with exports to that market increasing by 96.8% in volume and 92.2% in value during the first seven months of 2026. Other growing markets include Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq.

In contrast, demand from the Philippines has weakened due to policy changes. In July 2026, the Philippines Department of Agriculture stopped licensing imports of 5% broken rice, favoring 25% broken rice or higher instead. Despite this shift, the Philippines remained Vietnam’s largest rice market for the first seven months of the year.
