The Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade has approved a development scheme for the commodity derivatives market covering the 2026–2030 period, with a long-term vision extending to 2045. The initiative aims to reach an annual volume of 8 to 10 million contracts by 2030 by integrating derivatives with physical commodity markets to assist enterprises with price risk management and import-export activities. To achieve these goals, the government is focusing on modernizing trading, clearing, and settlement systems through digital technology and big data. Efforts include perfecting the legal framework, which involves a draft Law on Derivatives Transactions submitted to the National Assembly. Additionally, international entities such as the US-based CME Group have expressed interest in providing expertise regarding risk management and transaction organization to help align the market with international standards. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-21: Vietnam promotes digital commerce and derivatives market development Vietnam is boosting international trade by supporting young entrepreneurs in cross-border e-commerce and developing a professional, transparent commodities derivatives market. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/vietnam-promotes-digital-commerce-and-derivatives-market-development ### 2026-10-02: Vietnam targets 8-10 million commodity derivative contracts by 2030 Vietnam aims to reach 8-10 million commodity derivative contracts annually by 2030 through a new development scheme focused on legal reform and modernized trading infrastructure. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/vietnam-targets-8-10-million-commodity-derivative-contracts-by-2030 --- Cite as: Vietnam commodity derivatives market development.
