Sources: 12. Developments: 2. Vietnam is developing strategic frameworks for the 2026–2030 period to address increasing climate risks and natural disasters. Following significant economic losses and casualties recorded between 2021 and 2025, the national government is drafting a National Disaster Prevention and Control Plan. Officials have noted that while damages decreased in the first nine months of 2026, peak flooding periods in Central Vietnam remain a concern. At the local level, Hanoi has established goals to enhance community awareness and proactive prevention to mitigate damage from storms, tropical depressions, and heavy rainfall. This follows severe weather in 2025 and 2026 that caused widespread flooding and significant agricultural and economic destruction. In conjunction with disaster management, the government is also outlining a sustainable forestry strategy for 2026–2030. This plan aims to maintain a 42% national forest cover, increase carbon sequestration, and grow the forestry industry's production value to support both the economy and local livelihoods. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-22: Vietnam holds national conference to bridge research and industry gaps Vietnam is working to bridge the gap between academia and industry, addressing low corporate R&D spending and weak links between research institutes and the market to drive technological growth. 12 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/vietnam-develops-national-disaster-prevention-and-forestry-plans ### 2026-10-12: Hanoi targets enhanced disaster resilience and community safety Hanoi is targeting enhanced disaster resilience for 2026-2030 following heavy economic losses, aligning with global calls for risk-based housing and proactive community preparedness. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/hanoi-targets-enhanced-disaster-resilience-and-community-safety --- Cite as: Vietnam disaster prevention and climate adaptation planning.
