In provinces such as Nghe An and Dien Bien, schools are adopting proactive monitoring, integrating drug prevention into curricula, and teaching students to recognize substances disguised as candy or beverages. In Nghe An, teachers at Yen Thanh 3 High School have implemented models like the ‘Detective Squad’ to help students resist peer pressure. These local efforts coincide with broader public health concerns; the Vietnam Association of Critical Care and Toxicology reports that tobacco-related illnesses cause over 100,000 deaths annually in the country. In response to high smoking prevalence among the 18-24 age group, the Association has proposed legislative changes for the 2026 Law on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harms. These recommendations include a potential ban on the sale and use of tobacco for anyone born after January 1, 2010, to prevent long-term nicotine dependency. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-24: Vietnam addresses rising e-cigarette use among students Vietnam is tackling rising e-cigarette use among youth through school-based prevention programs and proposed legislative bans on tobacco sales for citizens born after 2010. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/vietnam-addresses-rising-e-cigarette-use-among-students ### 2026-10-21: Vietnam schools strengthen efforts against e-cigarettes and drugs Schools in Vietnam's Nghe An and Dien Bien provinces are implementing proactive monitoring and educational programs to prevent students from using e-cigarettes and disguised narcotics. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/vietnam-schools-strengthen-efforts-against-e-cigarettes-and-drugs --- Cite as: Vietnam student e-cigarette and drug prevention efforts.
