Developments: 7. Vietnam’s youth football programs have shown significant activity and success in late 2026. In September, the U16 national team convened a 36-player training camp under head coach Hoang Anh Tuan to prepare for the CFA Team China 2026 international friendly tournament in Shenyang. Following this period, the Vietnam U17 national team secured qualification for the 2026 U17 World Cup, becoming the only Southeast Asian representative after progressing through the 2026 U17 Asian Championship. Simultaneously, the U15 national team began preparing for the FIFA U15 World Cup & Festival 2026, which utilizes a unique 8v8 format on smaller pitches. Head coach Hoang Anh Tuan noted the squad is undergoing training to adapt to specific technical requirements, such as offside rules applying only in the attacking third. In mid-October, the U17 team entered a critical preparation phase. After a month of training in Hanoi, the squad arrived in South Korea on October 17 for a 10-day training camp. The team faces a setback as striker Dau Quang Hung was ruled out due to a thigh muscle injury. Following a 1-4 loss to Seoul FC U18 on October 20, the team secured a 5-0 victory against U17 Cheonan FC on October 26, with Trần Mạnh Quân scoring twice. Coach Cristiano Roland used the match to test various tactical setups and personnel. The U17 team is scheduled to continue preparations in the United Arab Emirates from November 6 to 9 before traveling to Qatar for the World Cup. In Group G, Vietnam is set to face Belgium, New Zealand, and Mali. In the inaugural FIFA U15 World Cup & Festival 2026 in Azerbaijan, the Vietnam U15 national team concluded its qualifying stage in Group R. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-26: Vietnam U17 football team defeats U17 Cheonan FC 5-0 Vietnam's U17 football team defeated U17 Cheonan FC 5-0 in a training match in South Korea as part of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA U17 World Cup. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/vietnam-u17-football-team-defeats-u17-cheonan-fc-5-0 ### 2026-10-26: Vietnam U15 finishes third in Group R at FIFA U15 World Cup Vietnam's U15 team defeated Guyana 2-1 to finish third in Group R at the FIFA U15 World Cup & Festival 2026, advancing to the Tier C stage. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/vietnam-u15-finishes-third-in-group-r-at-fifa-u15-world-cup ### 2026-10-20: Vietnam U17 football team loses friendly against Seoul FC U18 Vietnam's U17 national team lost 1-4 to Seoul FC U18 in a friendly match in South Korea as part of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA U17 World Cup. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/vietnam-u17-football-team-loses-friendly-against-seoul-fc-u18 ### 2026-10-17: Vietnam U17 team begins South Korea training camp for World Cup Vietnam's U17 national team has begun training in South Korea ahead of the 2026 FIFA U17 World Cup, facing injury setbacks and preparing for upcoming camps in the UAE. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/vietnam-u17-striker-dau-quang-hung-ruled-out-of-world-cup-due-to-injury ### 2026-10-15: Vietnam U17 team begins international training for FIFA World Cup Vietnam's U17 national team is beginning international training camps in South Korea and the UAE to prepare for the FIFA U17 World Cup 2026, facing opponents including Belgium, Mali, and New Zealand. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/u17-vietnam-prepares-for-fifa-u17-world-cup-2026 ### 2026-10-12: Vietnam youth football teams prepare for U17 and U15 World Cups Vietnam's U17 team has qualified for the 2026 U17 World Cup, while the U15 squad prepares for a unique 8v8 FIFA tournament. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/vietnam-u17-team-qualifies-for-2026-world-cup ### 2026-09-16: Vietnam U16 national team convenes for CFA Team China 2026 tournament Vietnam's U16 national football team has convened for training ahead of the CFA Team China 2026 international tournament in Shenyang, led by coach Hoang Anh Tuan. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/vietnam-u16-national-team-convenes-for-cfa-team-china-2026-tournament --- Cite as: Vietnam youth football development.
