Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi has begun promoting two upcoming film projects, ‘Baththa’ and ‘Mandavetti’.

Initial teasers for ‘Baththa’, directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, introduced Sethupathi as a village hooligan. Subsequent trailer releases for the film, which is set in the 1980s, suggest a more nuanced story. While the character is viewed by society as a fearsome ruffian, the footage highlights a gentle domestic side involving his wife, played by Lijomol Jose, and his daughter. The trailer, featuring a musical score by Sai Abhyankkar, emphasizes the bond between the protagonist and an eight-year-old child.

Following its release, ‘Baththa’ has been recognized for departing from traditional cinematic tropes. Set in 1980s Chennai, the film depicts a feared local don who undergoes a transformation after an encounter with a schoolboy, leading him to reject established machismo and toxic masculinity. Critics and audiences have noted the film’s focus on emotional depth over typical gangster violence, aligning it with a broader trend in Tamil cinema toward more progressive portrayals of men.

Additionally, a teaser was released for ‘Mandavetti’, a supernatural crime thriller directed by Saranraj Senthilkumar. The project is described as a dark mystery involving psychological tension and folklore centered on an enigmatic force called ‘Senji Saamy’.
