In September 2026, an armed pursuit and shooting on the Tepic-Xalisco boulevard resulted in a vehicle rollover after gunmen fired upon a Nissan Frontier. The driver was located at a nearby motel and placed under protection while authorities investigated the motive.

By October 2026, a separate incident involving a police pursuit in Tepic led to the death of 16-year-old Diego Armando Salas. Following a chase involving a white Mazda, Salas sustained two gunshot wounds to the head. While initial reports suggested the vehicle's occupants were armed, investigators found no weapons inside the unit. The Nayarit State Attorney General's Office is conducting forensic analysis to determine if the shots were fired by law enforcement. The involved officers have been removed from operational duties pending investigations by the Attorney General's Office and the Internal Affairs Directorate.
